Charity Judging

Roc City Rib Fest is all about giving back to our community and we want to help the children and families at the Ronald McDonald House of Rochester  We also want to give the public an opportunity to taste competition quality barbecue.  We would like to use the Roc City Rib Cook Off to accomplish both of theses goals.

We are asking the general public (no certification needed) to judge and donate $20 with 100% going to the Ronald McDonald house of Rochester.  The last three years were a smashing success!!  Thanks to our charity judges we have been able to donate $6000 to the Ronald McDonald house of Rochester!!

You will judge six different competitors ribs and be able to take any of the leftovers.  Not to mention the gratification of helping out families in need.  Our contest reps will do a quick class on how to judge, so no experience is necessary.  This is first come first serve so make sure to sign up early to get this unprecedented taste of competition barbecue.

Judges will need to meet at the judging tent at 3:30 pm on Saturday May 24th.

Registration is now closed for 2014!

Wanted to make sure I did this correctly…..wanted to have my dad, brother, and me do the charity judging this year. So I added 3 ($60 total) charity judgings to my cart and checked out. For “Team” name, I entered “Barone (3 charity judges)”. Did I do that right? All three of us will get to judge and sit together, right? Just checkin’! Thanks!

  9. Thomas Cali says:

Thank you Roc City Rib Fest! Both my wife and I were charity judges and we loved every minute of it! After the judging today, I had spoken to one of the certified judges about becoming certified. He explained that I needed to go to the KCBS website and find a nearby class. Unfortunately it seems the certified classes in Rochester are all done, will I have to wait until next year to become certified? Or is there another way to attain certification? Thanks for all your help.

  16. admin says:

Give it a try again, and make sure you have an up to date browser. Let us know if it is still failing.

  17. admin says:

Sure can, just purchase the quantity you would like and bring your receipt and friends!

  18. admin says:

Typically the Reps separate spouses and family members in a KCBS contest, as to reduce influence… Things are a little looser in the Roc City Rib Cook Off, just speak to the Reps before hand to see if they will allow it.

  19. David Massar says:

I have a charity judging purchase in my cart but i am unable to check out?

  20. david arnold says:

  21. Bruce jones says:

Can I sign up other people as charity judges under my name and Paypal account? I did not see any way to list their names.

  22. admin says:

You will be judging the Roc City Rib Cook Off on Saturday. You need to be there by 3:30pm at the judging tent. You will get a quick judging class at that time by our Professional Barbecue Reps from the KCBS and then judge the ribs as they come in at 4pm. You should be done within by about 4:30pm. More details are here:

The $20 goes directly to the Ronald McDonald House of Rochester!!

There isn’t a hard an fast limit… Just make sure that they are mature enough to take the judging portion seriously as the teams spend alot of sweat and money preparing their entry.

  24. Ivy says:

Is there any age limit? My tween wants to join the charity judging.

  25. Mike says:

Can you give me a quick overview for the charity judging? I pay the $20, take the one hour class, and just show up at the event? Which days do I show up? Do I just walk around and go up to the competitors and sample their stuff? I think this would be awesome and will do it, but just want a very quick synopsis of how it all works. Thanks!

  26. admin says:

    That includes the $5 entry…

  27. admin says:

Yes it does, they will have your names at the door, and / or you can bring your paypal reciept

  28. john says:

does $20 for Charity Judging includes $5 admission?

  29. Bob says:

We signed up to be a Charity Judge but only received confirmation of payment from Pay-Pal. Do we need something special to get in the gate and proof that we paid. Is the $5.00 entrance fee included or additional?

  30. admin says:

Yep, no problem just put anything in there…

The cut-off for the charity judges is likely next week. The certified spots don’t cost anything, but are only available to certified judges.

  40. Danielle says:

when is the cutoff for signing up to be a judge, and how many slots are you looking to fill—-i know the charity judge spots cost $20 —do the certified judge spots cost anything?

  41. admin says:

There are a couple different options here: And they have different time commitments, the easiest would to become a charity judge which only takes about an hour.
